Jacqueline Elaine Martin 1923 - 2008 Kern River Family Mortuary Jacqueline "Jacque" Martin was born in San Luis Obispo, CA, on August 2, 1923. She passed away at the age of 85, August 27, 2008, at home. As a child Jacque's family moved a lot. Jacque's father worked for Union Oil, as a result moving to: Shandon, Coalinga, Avenal, Buttonwillow, Cholame, Taft, Rio Bravo and Avila Beach. She graduated from SLO High School and attended Nursing School in San Francisco. Jacque worked for Houchin Community Blood Bank for 23 years as an RN. She traveled throughout Kern County on many blood drives and retired on July 3, 1985. Jacque enjoyed her pets, crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing the organ and working in the yard. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Martin; and her parents, Harold and Muriel Upchurch. She leaves behind her brother, Dean Upchurch and sister-in-law, Wanda Upchurch, Santa Maria, CA; nieces and nephews, Verna Martino, Santa Maria, CA; Carol Larsen, Sandy, Utah; Alan Upchurch, Santa Maria, CA; Susan Tolbirt, Oakhurst, CA; Sandy Truex, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Steven Upchurch, Woodlake, CA, and Tami Murphy, Mountain Home, Idaho. She also has numerous great-nieces and nephews; and cousin, Warren Plaskett, Bakersfield, CA. Many thanks to her longtime friend, Barbara Oldfield and adopted daughter, Melody Creel; caregiver, Barbara Lane; handyman, Cleve Henderson; and Hospice and neighbors with all their help. She will be missed by all, you would always recognize her by her smile. She was an Angel. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 10th, 11 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, in Bakersfield.
