According to the History of the Summitt Valley M.E. Church, one of the first cash donations was received from James W. Chichester. The church was built and then dedicated December 16, 1916. Rev. Grover J. Johnson was the first minister.

~ J.W. CHICHESTER DIES AT SUMMIT ~

James W. Chichester, 70, died Monday morning at his home in Summit. He was born in thei county and had spent practically all his life here. He was a member of the Fairview M.E. church.

Funeral services will be held from the Summit M.E. church Wednsday morning at 10:30 o'clock, with Rev. J.J. Kelly officiating. Burial will be made in Home cemetery at Dough's ridge.

He leaves his widow, Emma; two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Markley, of Ashville, Ohio, and Mrs. Olive Lockhart of Parkersburg, and five sons, William Windland of Parkersburg; Hubert of Barlow, Ohio; Charles and Hartsel of Guysville, Ohio, and Okey, at home. He also is survived by 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
