Beloved wife of the late Dr. Stephen H. Brown Sr., passed away peacefully Thursday, September 4, 2008. She was a retired teacher with the Chicago Public Schools, having taught for over four decades, mostly at Ruggles Elementary School at 79th and Prairie Avenue.

Loving mother of Stephen Jr. (Judith), Veronica (William) Winston, Mark and Eileen, devoted grandmother of David (Nicholle) Winston and Crystol Cotton; by marriage, cherished grandmother of two and great-grandmother of six. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Grand Pré Jr. (Alvernice, deceased), and is survived by her brother, Gordon (Betty) and sister, Phyllis Norrington.

Barbara had a passion for teaching children, and was an avid reader, so in her honor, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be used to purchase children's books for orphans in Africa. Gifts can be sent to Living Word Christian Center, Attn: Barbara Brown Memorial Fund, 7306 W. Madison, Forest Park, IL. (Gifts written out to "LWCC").

Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
