Army veteran and sign painter Jack N. "Montana Jack" Kinney, 79, died of natural causes June 19, 2002, at Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Columbia Mortuary.

He was born July 25, 1922, in Virginia, Minn.

He moved to Helena in 1935 where he attended school and graduated from Helena High School in 1941. In 1943, He enlisted in the Army and served until his discharge in 1946. Kenney owned his own business, Kinney Signs, from 1964 until 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen (Bob) Lahr of Moore; a son, Kim A. Kinney of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Alice Christenson of Bishop, Calif.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wives Doris in 1974 and Lorraine in 1981; and a daughter, Geni Kinney Lacy, in 1998.
