Adeline "Addie" Hoopes Barrus longtime resident of Star Valley died at the Bear Lake Memorial Nursing in Montpelier, ID on Feb 19, 1990.
Funeral services were held in Afton. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.
Adeline Hoopes Barrus was born Oct 4, 1902 in Ovid, Id to Francis Marion and Johanna Christina Petersen Hoopes. The family moved when she was a young child to Fairview where she was raised with 10 brothers and sisters. She also had two half sisters and five half brothers.
She was pressed into service at an early age in her large family. This hard work ethic and serving others was to follow her throughout her life.
She graduated from Star Valley High School in 1023. On May 28, 1924 Adeline and Osmond Wendell (Sandy) Barrus were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The made their home in Afton where Sandy had Barrus Motors. The great depression caused the loss of this business and he worked at various construction jobs thereafter.
Addie and Sandy were blessed with six children who were raised in Afton. In 1950 the family moved to Tooele, UT where Sandy was employed at the Tooele Ordinance Depot. After 12 6years they moved back to Afton.
Adeline was an active member of the LDS church and served in many positions throughout her life. She was a prayerful woman of great faith and was able to endure many hardships. She loved her family and friends. She was also appreciative of beautiful things in nature. For the past 10 years, Adeline has lived with her children, visiting them for several months at a time in various locations. Due to declining health she was admitted to a nursing home in Montpelier on July 5, 1989.
She is survived by two daughters, Wilda Turner of Sterling, Co AND Corrine Warren of Freedom; three sons Boyd Barrus of Afton; Jay Barrus of Bothell, WA; and Dwight Barrus of Los Alamos NM; 38 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; her brother Jess Hoopes of Fairview and sisters Della Hale of Afton; Pearl Brown of Reseda CA; Rose Payne of Springfield OR and Ila Briggs of Rexburg ID.
Preceding her in death were her husband Sandy who died Sept 18, 1978, her son D'Orr, and two grandsons.
