I don't believe her maiden name was Scribner - nor her middle name. She was born (probably out of wedlock) to Charlotte Devol - as was her older brother Horatio - it was several years later that Charlotte married Abner Scribner - Horatio accompanied them to New Albany but never adopted the name Scribner - remaining Horatio Nelson Devol. His sister remained behind in Ohio, married John Mason and to my knowledge was never a Scribner.
