CALCUTTA - Marion D. Sias Sr., 91, of Calcutta passed away at home with his family at his side at 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, following a brief illness.

Marion spent his youth in West Virginia and joined the Army shortly before World War II. He was stationed at Hawaii and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. He participated in several military actions in the South Pacific before being discharged in 1945. Following his service in the military, he moved to East Liverpool.

He was a general foreman in the agricultural department at the former Crucible Steel Co. and retired in 1982 after 40 years of service.

He was also a 50 year member of the East Liverpool Lodge No. 681 of the Free and Accepted Masons and was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various leadership positions including being President of the East Liverpool Branch for over 13 years. His greatest joys in life were hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He married the late Mable Adkins on Dec. 22, 1945, and they were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They spent 63 wonderful years together.

He is survived by a son, Marion Delfe Sias Jr., and his wife Debbie, of Elkton; and a daughter, Bonnie Weeks, and her husband Kerry, of Beaver, Pa. There are four grandchildren, Matthew Sias, and his wife Char, Megan Weeks, Tyler Weeks, and Haley Weeks; along with three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Wyatt, and Riley Sias; a dear niece also survives, Darlene Rolya, as well as several other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Dollie Cook, of Calcutta.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Sias; an infant son; half -brothers Millard Sias, Roger Sias, Eugene Sias, Artis Sias, Lindy Adkins, Jerry Adkins, Roma Adkins, and Harley Adkins; and half-sisters Pauline Sias Gibbs and Bessie Sias Stump.

Friends may visit Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 4-8 p.m. and from 11-11:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Bishop Randy Ogden will conduct a funeral service at noon Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7160 state Route 45, Lisbon.

Burial is to be in Riverview Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct full military honors.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
