His parents were William Clifford Westerman and Kittie Bonnell. He married Pearl Elizabeth Rasco on September 24, 1924 at Comanche, Comanche Co., TX. They had two daughters: Geraldine and June Laverne.

His father died when Bud was 9 yrs old. On August 14, 1914 his mother married John Wesley Pulley. Bud left home at the age of 14 and made his own way working for whomever. He returned to his home area when he was about 17.

After marrying, he farmed until the economy got really bad. They moved hunting work: TX, OK., IL and CA. They returned eventually to Tx and he spend years working in the oil fields of West Texas. They lived in Odessa, Ector, TX. Upon retiring, they returned to the Rasco farm in Comanche County.
