School Board Member, DeKalb County Board of Education. According to the Georgia School Boards Association, not only was she the state's longest serving elected public official, but possibly the longest serving elected Board of Education member in the nation. Elected to the Board of Education in 1979, she represented District 9 and served as an at-large member for 29 years. She was the first woman in the history of DeKalb to chair the board and was also elected by her colleagues as vice-chair of the board in 2003. She served on the board's Liaison Committee with DeKalb County Government and the DeKalb Legislative Delegation. She was also an ordained ruling elder at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a daughter, Charis Hanberry of Suwanee; a son, Bryan Andrews of Logan, AL; and four grandsons. Her husband of 43 years, Reverend James E. Andrews, preceded her in death.
