Retired Lt. Col. Mary Elizabeth Hoover, 77, of Biloxi died Monday, Feb. 22, 1988, in Biloxi. Lt. Col. Hoover was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, 6th District Nursing Association and the Gem and Mineral Society in Gulfport. She was a graduate of Mount de Chantal Nursing Academy in Wheeling, W. Va. She served in the Army Nursing Corps and received four citations during World War II, including the Purple Heart, for service above the call of duty. Lt. Col. Hoover was cared for by Mrs. Jessie Hall of Biloxi. Survivors include her husband, Emmett J. Hoover of Biloxi; a step-brother, James Dearman of California; and one foster granddaughter. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Biloxi National Cemetery. The Howard Avenue chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
