Gerald G. Boyd 73 passed away Thursday September 04, 2008 in Amarillo, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday September 13, 2008 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev H.L. Stevens retired minister of First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery with flag presentation by his nephew Sgt-Spc Mikael Boyd.

Gerald G. Boyd was born March 16, 1935 in Duval County, Texas to Levi and Ruby Boyd. He was a graduate of Sunray High School with the class of 1954. He married Marilou Bernales in Honolulu. Gerald served in the US Navy for 30 years retiring with the rank of Commander. He was a highly decorated Viet Nam Veteran being awarded numerous awards for heroism to include the Bronze Star with combat distinguishing device, 2 Purple Hearts, Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement medals with combat distinguishing devices. After retirement from the Navy he worked at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard on the island of Oahu. Gerald had been a resident of Moore County since 1946 before moving to Amarillo in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents Levi and Ruby Boyd, his brother Phillip Boyd and his sister Joan Derrick.

Survivors include; his wife Marilou of Amarillo; daughters Geraldine Boyd and Glenda Boyd of Amarillo, Shannon Wheeler and husband Gary of Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota; son Greg Boyd of Auburn, Washington; brothers Horace Boyd of Dumas, Conrad Boyd and wife Ruth of Ennis; sister Joyce Verley and husband Larry of Poulsbo, Washington; 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter.
