TOPEKA -- Rex W. Cornett, 72, of Topeka died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1935, in Cherryvale to John A. and Gladys O. (Trester) Cornett. He graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1953. He attended Independence Junior College and Pittsburg State University. He served in the U.S. Army.
He married Dolores A. Hedrick on May 27, 1960, at the First United Methodist Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.
He retired from the Kansas Department of Human Resources in 1994.
Other survivors include a son, Douglas Cornett of Topeka; a daughter, Kimberly Fay of Towanda; four grandchildren; four brothers, Bill Cornett of Burrton, Bob Cornett of Muskogee, Okla., Tom Cornett of Independence and Michael Cornett of Texas City, Texas; and a sister, Carolyn Raetz of Cherryvale.
The service was Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, Topeka. Burial was at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
