"As a result of heart failure, J.A. Maxwell, aged about 73 years, dropped dead at his home near Viola [Saturday, April 6] morning.

The man felt a smothering sensation and crossed the room to open a door for air. He staggered and fell into the arms of Dr. Hatfield. Within a couple of minutes, he was dead.

Mr. Maxwell was an old soldier. His wife has been ill, and is in a serious condition from the shock."

Notes for LUCINDA NEWGENT:
Shirley C. - Jun 3, 2000
"Rose Leora Maxwell is my Grandmother and her Mother was Lucy (Lucinda) Nugent Daughter of Charles Nugent and Mary Pugh.
Lucy Nugent and Husband James A. Maxwell left Knox Co Indiana after the war and came west to Kansas, then Oregon, to Whitman County, Washington, and finally ended up in Latah County, Idaho. They are buried at the Fourmile Cemetery at Viola, Idaho...."

More from Shirley:
"Lucy had a really rough life, she basically had to take care of the family as James was so sick most of the time after the Civil War. His lungs were bad. They lost at least one child {Richard}. She had one daughter who died of Dropsy when she was thirty years old, and as heavy as Lucy got I wonder if maybe she had that problem in later years...."
