Jake R. Cantrell

Retired Master Sgt. Jake R. Cantrell, 74, of 1509 Emerson Ave., Columbus, died Friday at his home.

A military graveside funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fort Benning's Main Post Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus.

Sgt. Cantrell was born April 14, 1916, in Toxaway, N.C., son of Alec and Luner Chappell Cantrell. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1958 and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Paula; two sons, Paul Cantrell of Waverly Hall, Ga., and Kenneth Cantrell of Columbus; two daughters, Victoria E. Lee and Patricia A. Cantrell, both of Columbus; three brothers, Ernest Cantrell of Columbus, Theodore Cantrell of Davidson, N.C., and Alec Cantrell Jr. of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters, Dot Robinson of San Diego, Calif., and Viola Rogers of Rosman, N.C.; and grandchildren.
