The well-lived life of Eugene Frazier Shaw has come to an end. Gene passed away suddenly Friday morning, June 3, 2005, at his ranch in Cambridge, Idaho. The man who always wanted to be a cowboy was truly enjoying life at his ranch when he left this Earth to forever rest peacefully.

Gene Shaw was born June 14, 1935, in Raiford, Florida, to Ida Conner and Jerry Frazier Shaw. He grew up in Starke, Florida, and graduated from Bradford County High School in 1952. He continued his education at the University of Florida where he obtained a degree in Agriculture. He attended the University of Georgia School of Law and worked for Purina before graduating in 1963 from the University of Florida College of Law.

Gene settled into private practice in Starke, Florida until elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1966. Gene honorably and proudly represented the people of Bradford, Baker, Clay, Columbia, Union, and Nassau Counties. He was elected Speaker Pro tempore of the House of Representatives in 1970.

Gene practiced law for 20 years in Starke. During this time, he served as Assistant to the State Attorney's Office in Clay County, for the Zoning Board of Bradford County and the Bradford County Commissioners.

Gene retired from practicing law in 1995 and moved to Unadilla, Georgia, before buying his dream ranch on the outskirts of Cambridge, Idaho with his beloved wife Fran. Here, he was closer to his other daughters in Sun Valley, Idaho, and could play out his lifelong dream of being Kit Carson.

Ranch life was hard work and Gene and Fran discovered that they loved their beautiful life but were ready to slow down a bit. They decided to build a new home in the milder climate of Wickenburg, Arizona, where they just spent the winter. Gene had been back at his ranch for the summer for just one month before he died.

The last 10 years of his life with Fran were his most enjoyable and for this, we are all grateful. We all will truly miss a unique man from whom we learned many lessons. May he rest in peace.

Gene is survived by his wife, Fran Morgan Shaw, daughters; Gina Fink of Kathleen, Carrie Shaw of Bellevue, ID, and Robin Shaw of Ketchum, ID, his mother, Ida Conner Shaw of St. Augustine, FL, his sister, Geraldine Shaw Bennett of Keystone Heights, FL, 3 grandchildren, and 2 special dogs.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 9 at Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla, Idaho.
