Matthew Walter Hunter was the son of Bill Humphrey Hunter and Lois M Roberts and the grandson of Walter B Hunter and Maude Lyda Carmack. Matthew had a brother Michael Chesley Hunter. Matthew died at the age of 10 while building a "cave" when the sides collapsed.

At the time of his death, Matthew was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Ft. Worth, Texas, where his grandparents are buried. He was moved to Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro, Texas when his family moved to Grayson County. He lies beside his parents. There are two stones to mark his grave, the original and a new one that matches the rest of the family.

Matthew's grandfather Walter was the brother of my great grandmother Leona Humphrey Hunter Ramsey.
