Son of George and Susannah (Harper) Parsons. Husband of Josephine Writesman. Father of Frances, Stella, Guy, and Cleve. Ran a ferry across the John Day River.

"Contention post office was established in July 1886, and was named because of fierce quarrels between two local settlers, "Pike" Helms and Jerome Parsons. Parsons' daughter, Frankie, objected to the undignified name and suggested a change to 'Twickenham', from Theophile Marzials' poem 'Twickenham Ferry'. The Parsons family, being quite influential in the area, and Frankie Parsons being the local school teacher, Twickenham post office was created and the town platted (by Parsons) in 1896 as Twickenham instead of Contention." pp. 57-58, "Glimpses of Wheeler County's Past", F. Smith Fussner.
