OBITUARY - SOUTHWEST TIMES RECORD - FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS - SUNDAY - JULY 13, 1986

Edna Earle Massey, 74 of 2305 So. N Street, died Friday, July 11, 1986, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a retired Fort Smith school teacher after 44 years, member and choir director at the First United Methodist Church, minister of music from 1945 to 1984, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a charter member of ADPEO, Arkansas Choral Director, National Fellowship of Methodist Musicians, charter member of the American Guild of organists, and member of the Arkansas Education Association and the National Education Association.

Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 1986, in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.

She is survived by two cousins, Cynthia Ann Dougan of Van Buren and Joe Bill Hackler of Rogers.

Pallbearers will be Tom Temple, Frank Jones, David Shaw, Dick Levitt, Bob Miller and Bob Hawkins.

The body may be viewed from noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Fentress Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund at the First United Methodist Church.

Note: Miss Massey was the choral music teacher at Northside High School (formerly Fort Smith High School) in Fort Smith, Arkansas for 28 years. She was an institution unto herself.

She never married. She is buried alongside her mother and father. There is a large, upright family stone and then three small, flat, individual stones.
