G.C. "Shorty" Webb, 74, a resident of Cherryvale and vicinity since 1920, died Monday, May 7, at 3:30 a.m. at his home 412 W, Third. He had been in failing health since suffering a stroke in 1946. He was born February 3, 1888, at Mason City, Illinois, to Henry and Mary Long Webb. He was proprietor of Webb Produce from 1929 until his health failed. He was a member of the Nazarene Church. On December 20, 1914, at Parsons, he was united in marriage to Jennie Hopkins. She and a daughter, Freda Webb, survive at the home. Other survivors are two sons, Wilbur M. Webb, Cherryvale and Luther R. Webb, Coffeyville, a grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Greene, Inglewood, Calif. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the Nazarene Church with the Rev. F.N. DeBoard pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. R. N. Geren of Aurora, Mo. Don VanDyne, John VanDyne and Wayne VanDyne sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden: accompanied by Mrs. Gene Adams. Ladies in charge of the flowers were Mrs. George Davis, Mrs. Robert Miller, Mrs. Cecil Jewett and Mrs. Frank Smith. Casketbearers included George Bell, Roy Bussert, George Davis, and John Terwilleger. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery by the Burns Funeral Home.
