Mellie was the daughter of Nancy C DENTON & Jim CAWTHON. Mellie's parents divorced and her mother married John T PUGH. Mellie married Richard Castleman on 4 Sept 1881 in Obion Co. Tennesse and soon after moved to Cross County, Arkansas as did several other family members. Most of the family later moved on to Craighead County, Arkansas in the early 1900's.

Note from her son, Kirk CASTLEMAN, Several years ago when visiting Richard Castleman's grave, my father Howell Castleman (1908-1986), said to me, "My mother is buried somewhere in this plot". I am also of the opinion that the older brother of my father, Lennie Castleman, 1884-1901, is also buried there. His picture is a beautiful, but sad young man who never learned to read or write. There may also be a little baby boy, Lewis, 1892-1895, who died from burns in an accident of burning leaves, who is also buried there but there is no proof.
