ANDERSON.--John A. Anderson was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 18O7. His boyhood was spent there and in Adams County. He moved to Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio, where he soon became prominent and popular. He was sheriff and during the Civil War he was provost marshall. After the war he moved with his family to Monroe, Michigan, with his son-in-law, C. W. Scott, with whom he made his home until his death. He went accompanied by Mrs. T. G. Potter, the wife of his pastor, for a drive on the ice of Raisin River on March 4, 1889. While returning, the ice gave way and Brother Anderson was drowned. His remains were found next day. Funeral services were held in the family residence, conducted by his pastor and the pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The pastor of the Episcopal Church was present and many prominent citizens. Memorial services were held in our church on Sunday, March 1O. The whole congregation were mourners. The remains were taken to Lima, Allen County, Ohio, for interment. Brother Anderson was laid to rest by the side of his wife, who went some years ago to the eternal home. Brother Anderson was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for over half a century.
