ATCHISON -- David O. Kottman, 96, formerly of Atchison, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at an Atchison hospital.
Mr. Kottman owned and operated an antique upholstering and refinishing business in Atchison and Rushville, Mo., for many years. He began his career with Art Metz in 1938 and opened Kottman Upholstering in downtown Atchison in 1945. He opened Kottman Antiques in Rushville, Mo., in 1956 after Atchison suffered severe flooding. He also had been a cabinetmaker, and he had worked in Atchison for the Pillsbury feed store and the Missouri-Pacific Railroad.

He was born April 8, 1906, in Whiting, Ind., the son of Arthur F. and Annie R. Clark Kottman. He graduated from high school in Falls City, Neb., and attended college in Nebraska.

Mr. Kottman was a member of Rushville Christian Church, a charter member of the Rushville Lions Club and a member of Active Masonic Lodge No. 158 in Atchison.

He married Carol Elizabeth Hern on Nov. 1, 1926, in Holton. She died Feb. 15 ,1987.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Kottman, Rushville, Mo., and Robert Kottman, Holton; a brother, Osmond Kottman, Grand Junction, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Becker-Dyer Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
