Kuhn, Robert J.
Robert J. Kuhn, age 81, born Jan. 11, 1926, St. Charles, IL 60174, died Jan. 4 at home surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Kuhn was born at home in Indianapolis, IN to Alexander and Henrietta Kuhn. He was preceded into eternal life by his beloved wife Sybil Carolyn Kuhn. He is survived by Thomas (Joy) Kuhn, John Kuhn, Nancy Garrison (Jeffrey), Mary Anne Callahan (Marty), and Maria Kuhn. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five step children. Contracting polio at age 16 (which placed him in an Iron Lung and paralyzed) he fought its effects for a lifetime. After four years of rehabilitation, he was able to walk with two canes and a full leg brace. he attended and received his degree from Loyola University of Chicago. He then went on to become a Certified Public Accountant. Upon graduation from Loyola University he joined his father, Alexander, with the accounting firm of Alexander X. Kuhn & Company, as a junior accountant. He then rose to Senior Partner. Mr. Kuhn retired from AXK & Company in 1996 following a career that spanned 45 years. He was partner emeritus of the firm and a distinguished member of the Illinois CPA Society and American Institute of CPA's. He was a single dad before there was such a thing. He never let anything stand in the way of taking care of his children. Referring to them as his greatest treasures, he kept the children in Catholic Schools. Four children are college graduates and one a former Army MP. He was faithful to his God and Church. He first served as an altar boy in sixth grade, later as a counter, and President and Treasurer of the Holy Name Society at St. Francis Xavier in LaGrange. He was co-chairman and treasurer of St. Louise "Spirit" Committee. For St. John Neumann of St. Charles, he was member of the Finance Committee. He also served the Rockford Diocese on the Disability Committee and Parish Council representing St. John Neumann. He was Secretary and Treasurer and founding member of the First National Bank of Brookfield. He serviced that financial institution as a Director for 25 years before retiring. He also served on the board of several other organizations. He has been co-trustee of the Walter J. and Edith Best Children's Charitable Foundation, which continues to aid many local and Chicagoland institutions for medical needs, education, and services for the poor. Mr. Kuhn was a staunch advocate of the American Disabilities Act and devoted himself to seeing to it that the law was applied correctly. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Neumann Church, 2900 E. Main St. (Rte 64) St. Charles. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Hillside. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St. (Rte 64) St. Charles. And also from 9 a.m. until the funeral time Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Misericordia Heart of Mercy, 6300 N. Ridge, Chicago, IL 60660 or to the Home Health Care Physicians, 1800 N. Main St. Wheaton, IL 60187.
