Norman Lee Vass, 85,passed away at his home on Route 1, Hillsville, early
Sunday morning, Oct. 22. A native of Carroll County,he was the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Vass. He was married to Mites Dora Alters on Feb. 28, 1900,
who preceded him in death on July 1, 1948.
Four of his children, Eva, Herman, Harry and Fey, preceded him in death.
Surviving are four daughters, Misses Zelda and Ruby Vass of the home,
MRS. Marvin Wilson, Hillsville, Rt. 1, Mrs Kenny Sharp, Woodlawn, Rt. 1
three sons, Arlyss and Roy Vass, Hillsville, Rt. 1, Raymond Vass, Salem
a foster son, Carroll Bowman Austinville. Twelve grapdchildren and nine
great grandchildren also survive in addition to three sisters, four brothers and one
halfbrother Mr. Vass Had been in ill health for several years but
during all his suffering he would always ask the many ministers who visited him to
preach, pray and sing- for him. The last minister that held preaching in-his home
was the reverened David Lewis pastor of the Mountain Plans Methodist Church when
he professed, his faith in Christ. He had been praying for the Lord to take him out
his suffering and said that he wanted to meet his loved ones and the night before he
passed away the next morning, he said he was ready.
