Ambrosia was the youngest of 8 children born to John C Gregory and Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Culver. She was born in Fairmount Township in Luzerne County. The Culver and Gregory families were among some of the earliest settlers in that part of Luzerne county.

Ambrosia was barely 3 years old when her mother Eliza passed away at the age of 35. Her father remarried a few years later.

In 1871 at the age of 20, Ambrosia married Elijah Bower of Briar Creek Township, Columbia County. They had 6 daughters, Annie Sarah, Rebecca Jane, Laura Mae, Maude Elizabeth, Blanche Orilla and Dora J.

In 1918 her husband Elijah passed away at the age of 73. Ambrosia died in 1943 at the age of 91 and was one of the oldest residents of Berwick at that time. She was survived by 5 of her daughters, 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Ambrosia had many direct connections with war veterans. Her brother Oliver Gregory, her husband Elijah Bower and her brother in law Enos Bower all served in the Civil War. Three of her grandfathers served in the Revolutionary War, Peter Gregory Sr, Stephen Roberts and Reuben Aaron Culver. Her great grandfather Elisa Richards also served in the Revolutionary War, he was killed at the Battle of Wyoming.
