Daniel Jones was born in 1803 in Virginia, but was educated in Kentucky, to which his parents had moved while he was young. At a later date, Daniel moved to Rush County, Indiana, and in 1845, to Buchanan County, Missouri. He located on land in Bloomington Township, where he died in 1891. He married Elizabeth Staggs, who was a daughter of James Staggs, a farmer of Fleming County, Kentucky, on July 27, 1824 in Fleming County, Kentucky. They had these children: James Jones, Sarah Jones, William Jones, Lovina Jones, Ambrose Jones, Fielding Jones, Matilda Jones, Albert Jones, Marinda Jones, Alfred Jones, and Daniel Jones Jr.
He died as he had lived, a man respected by all who knew him. Elizabeth Jones was a consistent member of the Baptist Church. He lived for 88 years, 6 months and 25 days.
