A BIOGRAPHY OF ELIZABETH CHURCHILL ELLIS, by Laurence Overmire (7th great grandson), genealogist and family historian, updated August 2020:

Elizabeth Churchill was born in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, on Oct. 7, 1687, the daughter of John and Rebecca (Delano) Churchill. Elizabeth's maternal grandfather was Phillippe de la Noue (Philip Delano), a French Huguenot, who arrived in Plymouth Colony on the ship "Fortune" in 1621. Delano is an ancestor of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

On Apr. 6, 1710, at Sandwich, 23-year-old Elizabeth married 30-year-old Joel Ellis, the son of Lt. Matthias and Mercy (Burgess?) Ellis.

Joel and Elizabeth had eight children:
1) Joel Jr. (1712-1783, m . Phebe Freeman)
2) John (1714-1779, m. Elizabeth Coomer)
3) Samuel (1716-1771, m. Lydia Chandler, Mary Cushman, Mercy Merrick, Catherine Campbell)
4) Matthias (1720-1790, m. Lucia Bennett)
5) Rebecca (b. 1721, m. Gideon Southworth)
6) Elizabeth (b. 1723, m. Samuel Lanman)
7) Charles (1726-aft 1789, m. Bathsheba Fuller) Revolutionary War veteran.
8) Thomas (1729-1797, m. Ruth Thomas)

Joel was a captain in the Massachusetts Militia.

Elizabeth died in Middleboro, April 3, 1753, at the age of 65. She was laid to rest at Cemetery At The Green.
