His funeral was 3 p.m. Tuesday at Messiah United Methodist Church with Pastor Paula Judy and Pas-tor Jerry Evans officiating.
Burial followed at Russells Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.
The family received friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the church.
Mr. McConnell was a retired dairy farmer. He was a founding member of Messiah United Methodist Church and served on various boards and committees. A World War II veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre, he was awarded the bronze star for gallantry in action during the Battle of Okinawa.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Alice Anita McConnell.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Harless McConnell; one daughter, Sandra Gail Campbell and husband Dale of Vale; three sons, Ronald Eugene McConnell and wife Frances of Vale, William Delbert McConnell and wife Brenda of Vale, Allen Dale McConnell and wife Elizabeth of Gastonia; eleven grand-children and ten great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Messiah United Methodist Church, 4102 W. Highway 27, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or to Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba County, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton is serving the McConnell family.
