MRS. EDNA M FLEEK DIES.

Mrs. Edna Fleek, wife of Jay G. Fleek, 1143 Center Point road NE, died at a local hospital Saturday at 3 p.m., following a lingering illness. Mrs. Fleek had lived in Cedar Rapids since 1927.

As Edna Malvina Tubbs she was born at Delhi, Nov 23, 1866, the daughter of H.E. and Mavina Tubbs. She was one of a family of nine children. When she was six years of age the family moved to a farm near Mason City. Mrs. Fleek attended school at Clear Lake, Ia and taught in the Cerro Gordo county school for ten years, embarking on her teaching career at the age of sixteen.

On May 31, 1894, she was married to Jay G. Fleek, at Mason City and the couple lived in the vicinity of Green, Ia., until moving to Cedar Rapids. Seven children were born to the Fleeks, of whom three, in addition to Mr. Fleek, survive. They are Ruth and Oscar Fleek, both of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. May Barnhart, of Waterloo. Two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Morrehouse of Green, and Mrs. Susie Wilson, of Bristow, Ia., survive, in addition to several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL FOR MRS. FLEEK

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Fleek will be held in the Moen chapel Tuesday at 9 a.m. conducted by the Rev. C. H. Hook. Further services will be held in the Gunther funeral home at Greene, IA., at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery there.

Mrs. Fleek Funeral Held Here Tuesday
Dies in Cedar Rapids Saturday at Age of 70 – Three Children Survive Her

Funeral services for Mrs. J. G. Fleek were held at the Moen Funeral home in Cedar Rapids Tuesday morning in Cedar Rapids and at the Guenther funeral home in this city at 2:30 that afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. H. Hook of the Central Presbyterian church of Cedar Rapids. Music was rendered by Miss Vera Kuhn and Miss Helen Thompson of Greene. Interment was in Rosehill cemetery. Casket bearers were Elmer Moss, Ed Jones, Ed Crabtree, Will Shook, Will Meyne and Ebe Wilder.

Edna Malvina Tubbs was born November 23, 1866 at Delhi, Iowa, and died at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, of a lingering illness, July 31, 1937, having reached the age of 70 years, 8 months and 8 days.

When 6 years of age she moved with her parents to Mason City, where she grew to womanhood. At the age of 16 she embarked upon her teaching career and taught in the Cerro Gordo county schools for 10 years.

The deceased spent most of her married life in the vicinity of Greene. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and was choir director in the Christian church and active in all church work. She was a great reader and well informed on most matters. Her health had been impaired almost continuously after moving to Cedar Rapids. She was a patient sufferer and never complained, always possessed of a cheerful disposition. Her last words were, "I am all right."

She leaves to mourn her departure her bereaved husband, a son and two daughters, Ruth and Oscar Fleek of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. May Barnhart of Waterloo. Three grandchildren, Lois May, Gail Lorraine and Walter Ray Barnhart of Waterloo; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Moorehouse of Greene and Mrs. Susie Wilson of Bristow, and a host of relatives and friends.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Barnet, Lois, Gail and Ray, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Hoffman and Miss Marguerite of Rockford; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Isley of Cedar Falls; Miss Gertrude Fleek of Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Walter Partridge of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Fagle, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Harris, Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coffin, Mason City; Mrs. Lura Shaffer, Mason City; Verne Fox, Aredale; and Mr. Charles Hoffman, Mitchell, S.D.
