Fred must have moved up to Heber valley a few years before the 1870 census was taken, as it shows him living in Heber at the time but in a separate dwelling from Harriet, her two-year-old daughter, and her brother George. Harriet's mother, Ann, is missing from the 1870 census but is listed on the 1880 census along with her son George. Perhaps Fred met Harriet in Provo and moved her to Heber while she extricated herself from her first marriage and due to the location of the two households, it's possible that George who is listed as a laborer worked for Fredrick who is listed as a farmer and a property owner. Fred and Harriet married on 14 Jul 1871 in Salt Lake City even though he was almost 30 years older than she was.
Besides being a farmer, Fred also became a cooper by trade and by his own hands made many wooden tubs, barrel staves, and shingles for the residents of the town.
