Funeral services for Sergeant Billie Cowan, 82, of Muskogee will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in Lescher-Millsap Chapel with Frank Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home. Sergeant Billie Cowan was born July 24, 1921 in Warner, Oklahoma the son of Abraham R. Cowan and Delia (Moran) Cowan and died May 25, 2004 in Muskogee. He was a lifelong area resident, attending schools in Elm Grove. On February 24, 1968 he married Gracie Cortez Wellborn in Wagoner. He was a member of the East Side Church of Christ. He retired from the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers. Survivors include wife, Gracie Cowan of the home; three daughters, Alice McCormick of Muskgoee, Marsha and Raymond Bill of Tulsa, OK., Sharon McCormick of Muskogee, OK.; two sons, George and wife Lynne McCormick of Reno, NV., Thomas and wife Carol McCormick of Chelsea, OK.; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister Rosie and husband John Dillinger; numerous nieces and nephews.
