He proudly served in the U.S. Army Special Forces Division during the Vietnam war. He was employed as a repairman for Maine Market Refrigeration for many years until retiring in 2006 due to illness.
He was a member of the Lewiston VET Center and enjoyed attending meetings there with his fellow veterans. He was an avid woodworker who had a perpetual kitchen renovation going on at his home. He also enjoyed working on cars and was in the process of a full restoration project. He enjoyed spending free time fishing and also enjoyed writing poetry and had a vast collection of poems he had penned.
He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as a very generous, good hearted person who was always willing to drop what he was doing to help someone in need. He may have grumbled about doing it, but he could always be counted on.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Tarilea "Tari" Nehring of Durham; a daughter, Molly Newton of Florida; two sons, A.J. and Kendrick Gores, both of Durham; two brothers, Robert Gores of Burrillville, R.I., and Gary Gores of Seattle, Wash.; a stepsister, Chicky Shore of Port Angeles, Wash.; two nieces, Christine and Anna; two nephews Jon and Trygvey; three great-nephews; and two great-nieces.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at CROSMAN FUNERAL HOME, 40 Main St., Lisbon Falls. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at the funeral home. Private interment will be held in Maine Veterans' Cemetery at a later date.
