Kathryn Jane Cloonan of Grahamsville, NY and Jekyll Island, GA, died of ovarian cancer on August 5, 2008 at home in Grahamsville. She was 65 years old.

The daughter of the late Emil J. and Ruth W. Meyer, she was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 15, 1943.

Her father was a career military officer and she lived in many areas of this country and in Newfoundland. She graduated from The Academy of the Holy Names in Silver Spring, MD, St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT and Fordham University in New York City. Mrs. Cloonan was a retired Professor of Humanities at Sullivan County Community College and teaching was a great love. During her retirement she taught a number of writing workshops on cruise ships, something that gave her much pleasure. Kaye was a former member of the Board of Directors of Friends of Historic Jekyll Island, as well as a member of the Alchemy Club in Grahamsville. She also served as a volunteer at the Daniel Pierce Library in Grahamsville and as a Mediator for the Sullivan County Dispute Resolution Center. Kaye was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Woodbourne where she was a lector and taught religious education for many years.

Her husband of 41 years, Kevin, at home; two sons, Jeffrey Cloonan of Avon, CO and Daniel Cloonan of Wilmington, NC; Daniel's son, Jason Cloonan; Jeffrey's daughter, Addison Cloonan and Jeffrey's fiance, Amanda Romero survive her. In addition, Kaye leaves behind two bothers-in-law, Robert J. Cloonan of Hartford CT, his wife, Barbara and William N. Cloonan of Kingston, NY, and his wife, Kathleen, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 8 at Colonial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, State Route 42, Woodbourne, NY on Saturday, August 9 at 10:30 a.m. Father Peter Chetaitis OFM, a long time friend, and Father John Lynch, Pastor of Immaculate Conception, will concelebrate the Mass.

Cremation will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Daniel Pierce Library, PO Box 268, Grahamsville, NY, will be appreciated.
