ALENE E. RUYLE
Scottville-----Alene E. Ruyle, 99, of Scottville went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center, just a week after her brother, Henry.
She was born Dec. 3, 1908, on the Ruyle farm, two miles south of Scottville, the daughter of Henry Lee and Gertrude Walker Ruyle. She never married.
She is survived by several cousins.
Her education began at Hettick Point School. She graduated from Scottville High School in 1927. She secured a teaching certificate just after graduation and immediately began teaching at Buzzard Roost School, south of Waverly.
She attended MacMurray College for two years, and in 1938 received a B.S. in education from the University of Illinois, majoring in biological science. She taught biology at White Hall High School for three years, eight years at Cerro Gerdo High School and the last 10 of 31 years at Carlinville High School. She retired in 1964. She never owned a car.
Alene was a member of the American Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of Scottville Christian Church since 1923, where she taught Sunday School, and volunteered at Lewis Memorial Christian Home in Springfield.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug 27, 2008, at Scottville Christian Church, with burial in Scottville West Cemetery. Family will meet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Scottville Christian Church Youth Fund.
Family is interested in contact with former students of Miss Ruyle.
