LIVINGSTON/MINERAL POINT
George C. Hildreth, age 70, of Livingston, and formerly of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with melanoma. He was born on Oct. 14, 1937, the son of Howard and Elizabeth (Richards) Hildreth. He attended Mineral Point High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He married Joan Cocking on Oct. 10, 1959, in Mineral Point. He worked at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed hobby farming, his Amish friends and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a active member of the Mineral Point American Legion. George is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan of Livingston; five children, George Jr. (Berta) Hildreth of Montfort, Paul (Linda) Hildreth of Mineral Point, Barb Hildreth of Mineral Point, Rod (Donata) Hildreth of Blue Mounds, Mike (Beth) Hildreth of Byron, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard (Carla) Hildreth of Madiosn; two sisters, Dellamae Stude of Madison and Kathy (Bruce) Carls of Oregon; a sister-in-law, Sandy Whitford of Mineral Point; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother- and father-in-law, Frances and Henrietta Cocking; a son, Keith; a sister, Jean Ann; and two brothers-in-law, Frank Cocking and Jim Whitford. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Mineral Point. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Mineral Point VFW and American Legion.
