George P. Weathers, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Aug. 22, 2008, at his home, with his family by his side, after battling a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in Waco.

George served in the U.S. Navy and after returning from the Navy, he played for a semi-pro baseball team in Waco. He married Mildred Henry on Dec. 11, 1948, and was soon to celebrate 60 years of marriage. George joined the Waco Fire Dept. in 1957, and retired after 31 years of service. He will be remembered for his love of his family and firefighting; his loyalty and respect for his fellow firemen for 31 years; and for his extraordinary sense of humor. He was a very gifted artist and avid golfer.

George is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Oklahoma City; daughter, Debbie Wallace and husband, Bob, of Oklahoma City; son, Paul Weathers and Cindy Saenz, of Houston; granddaughters, Shannon Daniels, of Oklahoma City, Kellye Mutzig and husband, Jody, of El Reno, Okla., Mindy Weathers, of Fairfax, Va., and Christina Weathers, of Houston; great-granddaughters, Laci Daniels and Kenzi Mutzig; sister, Mae Cass and husband, Bill, of Plano, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
