Alberta V. Hartman, 84, of St. Joseph, died at 7 pm Monday Feb. 19, 2001 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Graveside services will be 1 pm Friday in Patterson Cemetery, St. Joseph. The Rev. Tom Anders will officiate. There will be no visitation. Freese Funeral Home, St. Joseph, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hartman was born Sept. 29, 1916 at Potomac, a daughter of Jesse and Pearl Wilson Grove. She married Ernest Hartman on Sept. 22, 1940 in St. Charles, Mo. He died March 27, 1999. Surviving are two sons, Charles Hartman of St. Joseph and Robert Hartman of Homer; five daughters, Mary Hafner, Diana Thrush, Sue Hartman Powers and Patty Wakefield, all of St. Joseph, and Judy Hartman Linn of Destin, Fla.; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant children and a brother. Mrs. Hartman and her husband farmed in the St. Joseph area. She also worked at Pioneer Seed Co., St. Joseph, and was a homemaker. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Champaign County Humane Society. (News Gazette Feb. 21, 2001)
