June R. Zander, age 49, of Muscoda, formerly of Barneveld, ended her 5 ½ year journey with breast cancer on Thursday, November 1, 2007.

June was born on June 26, 1958 in Sauk Prairie to Harold and Rita (Bindl) Zander.

When she was in the 4th grade, her family moved to Barneveld. She was a graduate of Barneveld High School; earned her B.S. from Edgewood College and her M.S. from U.W. Platteville.

While in college, June played basketball and softball and was a charter inductee to the Edgewood College, Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.

June taught for 26 years in the Riverdale School District and was loved and respected by her students, colleagues and anyone who knew her.

She also worked with students through her years of coaching, including two years of track, 18 years of softball and basketball as well as cheerleading and Student Council.

Many Riverdale athletes fondly remember dinners at June's house before the big game.

She was a devoted member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Muscoda where she served on the church council, did cantoring and was part of the church choir.

June never missed the opportunity to win a good card game (she always knew the rules!) or to attend a niece or nephew's sporting event, concert or play.

Each special event was remembered with a knitted or cross stitched gift. June contributed to many local youth fundraisers.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leo and Lorena Zander, Frank and Marie Bindl and aunts and uncles, Mary Breunig, Barbara and Ervin Zander and Pam Bindl.

June is survived by her parents, Harold and Rita Zander of Barneveld; a sister, Jean (Jerry) Thousand of Barneveld; seven brothers, Jim (Kathy Arneson) Zander of Monticello; Jerry (Laura) Zander of Barneveld; Jeff (Tammy) Zander of West Salem; Joel (Sandy) Zander of Waunakee; Jon (Tami) Zander of Eleva; Justin "Tom" (Sherry) Zander of Oregon and Jan (Shelly) Zander of Phoenix;
