CAPTAIN WHALEY DEAD.
Captain T. J. Whaley, died at his home on College street Wednesday at midnight after being sick for many months. Mr. Thomas Jefferson Whaley was one of Marshall's oldest citizens, honored and respected by all who knew him, and his death will be mourned by many citizens who have known him so many years.
The deceased was born in Hancock county, Georgia, July 7, 1833, and when a young man he moved to Texas, arriving here in 1853. He married Miss Eugenia Coleman on August 22, 1855, and had made this his home continually since. When the war broke out, he joined the Confederate army and was in the battle of Mansfield and was first lieutenant in Company K, Cavalry, dismounted and when his captain, Gil McKoy was killed at Mansfield, he was promoted to the position of captain of his company.
The deceased has been an honorable and useful citizen to Marshall and Harrison county for nearly sixty years and leaves a family and a wife, Mrs. Eugenia Whaley, two daughters, Mesdames S. L. McClaran of Marshall, George Leachman of Dallas, and three sons, P.G., Thomas L. and E. C. Whaley, besides many grandchildren to mourn his death.
He was a member of Marshall Lodge No. 22 and Masons.
