businessman, horse-fancier,
dies unexpectedly at 75

Harold D. "Skeeter" Albee, 75, of 407 N. First St., Fairbury, died at 1:31 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 1986, at Fairbury Hospital.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist church, Fairbury, with Rev. David R. Deal officiating. Burial was at Graceland cemetery, Fairbury. Duffy-Pils Memorial home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were his grandsons Brad; Alan; James D.; John A.; Jeff; and Mark Albee. Denise Brown was organist.

Mr. Albee moved with his family to Fairbury from Saunemin in November 1940. He worked five years as a mechanic for Wes Hanson at Fairbury Auto and Eli Moser at Moser Implements.

In 1945 he started his own auto repair shop in the Fairbury Arcade Block. Also in 1945 he moved his business to the Percy James building at 117 N. Third St., immediately north of the Central Opera House.

After 15 years he retired this venture and moved into the Mobil Oil station at 7th and Oak streets. Mr. Albee rented the building from Dean Moser and owned and operated this business until his retirement in 1975.

For the next nine years he was semi-retired and worked for Roger Bachtold at Fairbury Auto Parts. During this period he was a route salesman calling on Forrest, Chatsworth and Piper City customers.

Mr. Albee was an avid harness horse fan. He was a harness horse racing judge for 30 years at the annual Fairbury fair. Most of this time he served as presiding judge. He retired from this position in 1978.

He was born Aug. 13, 1910, at Chatsworth, the son of David Perry and Margaret Elbert Albee. He married Marietta Perkins on May 19, 1928, at Chatsworth. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, James, Yankton, S.D.; Dale, Tucson, Ariz.; and John, Bloomington; one brother, Francis, Gilman; a sister, Marie Overacker, Piper City; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one granddaughter.

Mr. Albee was a member of First United Methodist church, Fairbury; and the Fairbury Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist church, Fairbury.
