Delena M. Romani, 99, of Gallitzin died Monday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
She was born in Italy, daughter of the late Angelo and Josephine (Zizzia) Bongiorno.
Surviving are four children: Angelo J. (Marlene) of Petersburg, Fla., Philomena (James) Russum of Chicago, John J. Jr. of Ebensburg and Larry J. (Shirley) of Ebensburg; two daughters-in-law: Gina Romani of Altoona and Eileen Romani in Florida; 11 grandchildren: Robert Romani, Francine Helbig, Michael Romani, Randall Romani, Marla Taylor, Lana Schlander, Doris Bembynista, David A. Romani, Barbara A. Romani, Anthony Romani II and Jessica Link; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Angie Eckard of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on May 31, 1977; two sons: Francis J. on Jan. 13, 1992, and Anthony on Oct. 24, 1977; four grandchildren: Joyce Romani, John Romani, Connie Keeling and Jonna Bryan; and seven siblings: Cuttino, James and Joseph Bongiorno, Carmella Kakavechi, Stella Barba, Rose Marketti and Pearl Guido.
Delena owned and operated Romani Grocery Store and Apartments in Gallitzin. She was a member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, and she enjoyed crocheting and traveling.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, the Rev. Albert Ledoux as celebrant. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
The family suggests that donations be made to a charitable organization of your choice in Delena's memory.
