Earl Kelly, 56, took his life early Friday morning at this home in Springdale. His body was found about 11 a.m. by his wife, Rosie, on her return from Tipton . Coroner Harold Peterseim ruled the death suicide. Kelly had apparently got up from bed, took a 22 caliber automatic rifle, loaded it with 5 cartridges and got back into bed. A single shot was fired from the gun entering the center of his forehead at a slight angle. The reason for the suicide was thought to be despondency. Funeral services for Kelly were held Tuesday at the Sheets and Dahn Funeral Home in Tipton. The Rev. Guthrie of the Friends Church of West Branch had charge of the services. Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Lovell, Frank Lovell, William Lovell , Earl Baker, Wilmot Lendt and Kenneth Weaver. Earl Kelly was born in Kansas City Oct. 22, 1898. He came to the West Branch community when a young man and worked on farms for several years. Later he took up the trade of tiling and remained at the business until his death. He was united in marriage to Rosa Morgan on October 16, 1937 at Muscatine, making their home in Springdale. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Kelly of Springdale, five stepdaughters; Mrs. Ethel Lovell, Tipton; Mrs. Wilmot Lendt, Clarence; Mrs. Earl Baker, Tipton; Gladys Morgan,Tipton and Mrs. W. E. Ackley, El Cerrito, California.
