Harold Hardwick Sr.

Fort Scott native Harold Leonard Hardwick Sr., 86, of Marksville, La., brother of George Hardwick of Moran and Robert Hardwick and his wife, Fay, of Iola, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Nursing Home in Alexandria, La. He was the son of the late Montie and Helen Hardwick.
He was an accomplished musician, retired Avoyelles Parish educator, a master sergeant during World War II in the Army Air Force and was a member of the Eighth Air Force 452nd Bomb Group with 29 missions over the European Theatre, flying member of the B-17, member of American Legion Post 130, American Legion 40 & 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, St. Joseph choir, Chamber of Commerce and Knights of Columbus.
He served the community in many capacities including Marksville town councilman for eight years, as mayor pro-tem and police commissioner.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Guillot Hardwick, of Marksville, with whom he recently celebrated 63 years of marriage; a son, Lt. Col (Ret.) Harold Leonard Jr. and his wife, Sylvia, Houston, Texas; daughters, Annetta M. and her husband, Dr. Thomas Reid, Gilbert, Ariz., Paula and her husband, Kenneth J. Smith, Houston; six grandchildren, Pamela Ugalde, Michael Hardwick, Kristen Howard, Robin Zenno, Kirt Smith and Rachel Kniffen; and eight great-grandchildren.
A sister, Louise Meyer, and brothers, Donald and John, died earlier.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marksville. The Rev. Rusty Rabalais will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum No. 2 in Marksville.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
