Daily Journal-Gazette, Mattoon, Illinois, 21 Feb 1944 - Stepmother of two Mattoon women dead - Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Adkins Rankin, widow of W. H. Rankin of Gays, were held recently at Spencer, Ind., where she died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edith Brinson, with whom she resided Mrs. Rankin spent most of her life in the Gays vicinity and moved to Spencer at the death of her second husband in 1939. Her first husband, Sylvester Adkins, died several years previously.

Surviving besides Mrs. Brinson, are another daughter, Mrs. Fannie Thomas of Sarasota, Fla.; three brothers, all living in Indiana; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Martin Behrend and Mrs. Esther Campbell of Mattoon and Mrs. A. T. Wallace of Sullivan are stepdaughters.
