Martie McIntyre was the son of Martin and Sarah Ann (Geer) McIntyre. His father died before he was born, so his mother and a friend named Sarah Alice Rumbley ("Aunt Allie") raised him and his half-sister, Lizzie McIntyre, Martin's daughter by his first wife, Susan (Chapman) McIntyre. Lizzie's brother Gould Calvin also sometimes lived in the home, and Martie considered him a father figure. Also Lizzie's children, Gladys and Lorene, lived in the home after Lizzie died in 1915. Martie served for a short time in the Navy during WW I. He first married Fannie Mae Myers in 1919 and they had two children, Woodrow Wilson (1920) and Norma Lois (1922). Fannie died of TB in 1925. Later Martie married (1927) the Rev. Mary Mayo Moses, who was pastoring the Church of God in Allison Gap at the time. Martie and Mayo had four children: Gerald Otis (1930), Bernice Marshalla Mayo (1932), Zenobia Sarah (1938) and John Martin, Jr. (1940). In his twenties, Martie ran a clothing store with Harry Campbell in Allison Gap. Later Martie worked for the Mathieson Corporation in the grocery department of the company store for many years. He later managed a branch store in Allison Gap. Martie died at the Saltville Hospital of congestive heart failure at the age of 68.
