Dr. Thomas D. 'Doc' Flautt, 77
SOMERSET - Dr. Thomas D. "Doc" Flautt, 77, of Somerset, died at 5:43 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.
Tom was born August 20, 1929 in Somerset, the son of the late William J. and Florence Gallin Flautt.
He was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School, Xavier University in Cincinnati and Loyola of Chicago School of Dentistry. Upon completion of dental school, he enlisted and served in the Air Force where he was a Captain during the Korean Conflict. He then returned to Somerset where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2000.
Tom was a 50 year member of the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 and served as Chaplain for more than 35 years. He was a 50 year member of the Somerset Lions Club, belonged to the New Lexington Elks, was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and Hocking Valley Dental Society in Lancaster. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, sports, and family gatherings.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, whom he married February 14, 1953, Doris E. Woods Flautt; sons, Roger (Starla) Flautt of Chillicothe, Kevin (Elaine) Flautt of Merritt Island, Fla., and David (Laurel) Flautt of Ashtabula; daughters, Carolyn (Michael) Forsythe of Thornville and Beth (Gene) Gable of New Lexington, two sisters, Isabel Betts of Reynoldsburg and Catherine Nuck of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Bev (Clarence) Martin of Council Bluffs, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren, Chrisy (Kurt), Jonathan, Stephen, Ashley, Dustin, Amanda (Adam), Shawn, Megan, Andrew, Jamie (Liz), Floyd, Edgar, Sarah (Bill), Jacob, and J.T.; six great-grandchildren, Abigail, Lukas, Fiona, Bridget, Maura, and Leah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Bever; and brothers, George and Robert Flautt.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wed., Jan. 3, 2007 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Tony Breen as celebrant, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Gene Dawson. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Somerset American Legion.
