THOMPSON
Mrs. Laetitia Magoffin Thompson, widow of John Charles Thompson, Sr., and a resident of Cheyenne, Wyoming, for nearly half-century, died last Thursday morning at St. Paul, Minn. She was 76 years old. Death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stanhope E. Blunt. The body will be brought to Cheyenne, arriving Friday night, and funeral services probably will be held Saturday.
Mrs. Thompson has spent the greater part of the time in the East, visiting her daughters, since the death in 1927 of her husband, a prominent Attorney and for years a Democratic party leader. She had been at the home of Mrs. Blunt for several months. Her body was accompanied to Cheyenne by her son, Lieut. Com. B. M. Thompson, U. S. N., retired, who has been at St. Paul for some time.
Other children of Mrs. Thompson are two sons and four daughters. They are John C. Thompson, editor of the Tribune-Leader; Judge Sam M. Thompson, of the First Judicial District; Mrs. John Grieve, of Casper, vice president of the board of trustees, of the University of Wyoming; Mrs. Edgar Z. Steever and Mrs. Spencer E. Dickinson, both of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. George H. Duff, of Panama. There are 16 grandchildren.
Mrs. Thompson came to Cheyenne from Kentucky in 1886. For more than 40 years she resided at 2016 Capitol Avenue. She was of distinguished Southern strain. Her maternal grandfather was Isaac Shelby, first governor of Kentucky; her father, Beriah Magoffin, governor of Kentucky when the Civil War broke out. She was born at Harrodsburg, Ky., in 1857; was educated at Daughters' College there and was married to John Charles Thompson in 1876. She was prominent in Cheyenne social life for the period of a generation.
The above from the Cheyenne, Wyoming newspaper will be read with regret by the many friends and relatives of Mrs. Thompson. She spent some days in Harrodsburg last year with her son, Lieut. Beriah Magoffin, and was present at one of the community celebration dinners at Beaumont Inn, at which in a brief talk she expressed her delight in being once more at Harrodsburg and among friends of other days.
