"Marion Bolton Shot Wednesday"
Aged Farmer Killed While Making Molasses By Winchester Rifle
Marion Bolton, 60, prominent farmer of the Stinking Creek section of Campbell County was shot and instantly killed Wednesday afternoon at about 1:45 o'clock about one fourth mile from his home, allegedly by Farris Baird wielding a .38 caliber Winchester rifle. A call was issued to Sheriff Dick Bowman who went to the scene of the crime accompanied by Hen Lou Spradlin and Pryor Baird. According to the officers, Farris Baird and Emmett Baird passed along the road while the aged man an his son, Otis Monroe and Otis Kidwell were making molasses. There was an argument and Baird shot Bolton twice, once in the center of the chest and once in the right breast. The trouble is said to have started several years ago when Bolton was a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Davis, and raided a still. Emmett Baird was arrested Wednesday afternoon and taken to the jail at Jacksboro. Farris Baird who allegedly did the shooting had not been apprehended last night. Bolton is the father of 12 children. The funeral arrangements had not been made this morning.

"Farris Baird Is Held Without Bail"
Farris Baird, accused of the murder of Marion Bolton, farmer of the Stinking Creek section of Campbell County, was held without bail at the examining trial n Jacksboro Monday. Emmett Baird, brother of Farris who was indicted jointly with Farris, was allowed bail of $5,000 but had not made bond late Tuesday afternoon. Farris Baird was captured and taken to Jacksboro by Sheriff Dick Bowman Friday night.
