Johnie William Hennessee, 91, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, April 1, 2007, at his residence.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Harl and Fannie Vincent Hennessee, and he was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Harrison; and two brothers, Arthur "Hootie" Hennessee and Arlen Hennessee. He was a retired McMinn County school bus driver, plumber, electrician and farmer, and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 53 years.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Rosa Lee Elkins Hennessee of Athens; one son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Faye Hennessee of Athens; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Betty Morrow and Fran and Dan Walker, all of Athens, Charlotte and Jacky Davis and Carolyn and George Brown, all of Riceville, Anna L. and Bill Moon of Decatur, and Connie and John Powers of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren, Ronnie Hennessee, Tonia Martin, Billy Morrow, Chris Morrow, Debbie Wilson, Sandy Morrow, Rick Davis, Kathy Lewallen, Christy Lasher, Donna Stephens, Jeff Walker, Patsy Green, Beverly Woodall and Nathan Powers; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie Hennessee of Athens, and Billy Hennessee of Decatur; and two sisters, Mattie Cate of Riceville, and Anna Norris of California.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home with Dr. John Powers officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o 1450 County Road 130, Riceville, TN 37370.
