Caswell Hicks was an orginal member of Company B of the First Tennessee Infantry-the first federal unit formed in Tennessee (August 1. 1861.) Two of his sons, Rhodes & William, also joined that day.

Caswell Hicks was born in 1815 in Tennessee. His father was Thomas Hicks. His wife was Martha Stanley. His tombstone was supplied by Vermont Marble Co., Proctor, Vermont with a contract signed March 8, 1901. He is last seen the the 1880 Census in Elk Fork, Tennessee.
